V-Twin Expo vs American V-Twin Dealer Show

I love attending the Cincy V-Twin Expo. It gives me an opportunity to see the newest products for the V-Twin crowd and provides a chance to meet up with old friends and make new ones. Though I'm glad to see the introduction of a new V-Twin trade show, I wonder if there's room enough on the calendar for two shows within a couple of weeks of one another. Hoorah! Just got wind that there’s going to be a new trade show for the V-Twin Industry. Advanstar Communications announced the launch of the new American V-Twin Dealer Show . It will be held at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis on February 17-19 at the same time as the annual Indy Dealer Show. Promoters are hoping to give industry people and enthusiasts a “one-stop-shopping” experience. But in the past the Indy Dealer Show hasn't catered much to the huge V-Twin aftermarket parts and accessories market, so we’re excited at the promise of the new venture. But we take umbrage with the press release’s claim that it is “the first premium trade show for the V-Twin motorcycle industry.” Apparently whoever wrote the article hasn’t heard of a little shindig called the Cincinnati V-Twin Expo . I love the V-Twin Expo. It generally takes place a couple of weeks before the Indy Dealer Show and gives me a great opportunity to see the newest products for the V-Twin industry. Bike building legends like Arlen Ness and  Roland Sands are usually milling around, a few custom builders and shops use the show as a platform to introduce new bikes, and I get more networking done at that show in that one weekend than I do at any other event over the course of the year. The annual gathering, sponsored by Easyriders, is heading into its 12th year and is always run with the utmost professionalism. It pumps a lot of money into Cincy’s economy during the slow winter months, from the renting out of the Duke Energy Convention Center to filling downtown hotels So as much as I’m excited about the new trade show, it makes me concerned for Cincy’s V-Twin Expo. Sure, heavyweights like Tucker Rocky and Custom Chrome have the resources to make it to both shows, but the small shops out there which use the V-Twin Expo to get exposure for their product in hopes of landing a contract that takes them to the next level won’t be able to do both. And part of the beauty of the Expo is searching for the next big thing from an up-and-coming shop.

Automotive Aftermarket brands continue to rev up their sales with Shopatron, resulting in 12.5 percent year-over-year online sales growth in the first half of 2010.

The event runs Sept. 26-29 and draws more than two dozen manufacturers from Shopatron’s client list, including: Belltech, Bulldog Winch Company, Bully Dog, Centerforce, CTEK Power Inc., Dee Zee, Diablo Sport, Flex-A-Lite, G-Force, Gibson, Grant Products, Hedman Performance, KW Automotive, Midway Industries, MSD, Nitrous Express, Optima Batteries, PerTronix, Revtek, Skyjacker Suspension, Spectre Performance, Taylor Cable and Thermo-Tec. “It’s great to see our automotive aftermarket brands doing well in an industry that has been hit hard by the recent recession,” said Ed Stevens, Founder and CEO of Shopatron. “We are starting to see things pick up across the board, as shoppers are spending more in most of the 35 industries we work in. In fact, our same-store sales across all of our stores last month were about 30 percent above last year. We have not seen these kinds of growth rates for some time. We think this signifies a return of shoppers to the table and bodes well for the holiday season.”

By utilizing their dealers as fulfillment partners, Shopatron brands offer in-store pickup for online orders. Shopatron offers several options for in-store pickup service, including a “ship to store” model that works well for automotive aftermarket products that may not be stocked by dealers and often require installation. When an online shopper selects ship-to-store delivery, their chosen dealer may immediately fill the order if they have the item in stock, or the manufacturer can ship the item to the dealer for pickup or installation at a later time.

With the addition of ship to store, brands like JL Audio are able to generate sales on their website and send foot traffic to their authorized dealers.
