Overture Center names HR director, chief fundraiser
As it prepares to assume operation of Overture Center, the nonprofit Overture Center Foundation has named its human resources director and its chief fundraiser.
Jan Hamik, the new director of human resources, joined the foundation in March as a consultant to help manage the center's transition from a public entity staffed by city employees to a private foundation. She previously served in management positions in the state Department of Administration and opened a consulting business in 2010.
Janet Piraino, who previously served as chief of staff to former Mayor Dave Cieslewicz, was named interim vice president of advancement for Overture, where her responsibilities will include fundraising.
In her city job, Piraino helped craft legislation to transition Overture to private operations. She has also served as state director for former U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold, chief of staff to former U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett, and government relations specialist for the University of Wisconsin System.
"It's an exciting time at Overture," foundation chairwoman Deirdre Garton said in a statement. "A lot of pieces have to fall into place over the next few months, and it's great to have two more outstanding professionals on the team."
Hamik becomes human resources director on Jan.1. Until then she continues as transition manager. Piraino began her duties Tuesday.
