Williamsport man dies in motorcycle-car crash

WEST LEBANON -- A Williamsport man was killed Sunday after a two vehicle crash in southern Warren County.

According to Sgt. Ann Wojas of the Indiana State Police, the crash happened about noon Sunday at Indiana 263 and Tower Road, just south of West Lebanon.

Wojas said a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by Tyler Potts, 25, of Williamsport, was heading north on Indiana 263 when a southbound 1998 Dodge Intrepid operated by Kay Lape, 74, of West Lebanon, attempted to turn left onto Tower Road.

Lape did not see Potts' motorcycle and turned in front of it, causing the motorcycle to strike the turning vehicle.

After the crash, Potts was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Williamsport where he was pronounced dead as a result massive trauma to his head and chest.

Wojas said he was wearing a helmet during the crash.

Lape, who was uninjured, was cited for failure to yield to another vehicle. Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash.

No new information was released Sunday about the condition of a Lafayette woman struck by a vehicle early Saturday near the Purdue University campus.

According to West Lafayette Police, Courtney Limon, 21, was taken to St. Elizabeth East hospital after being hit by a car driven by Henry Bazan, 27, of Lafayette, about 3:23 a.m. Saturday at State and Littleton streets.

Hospital officials said Sunday that no information was being released about Limon. She was listed in fair condition Saturday night.

Police said Limon was crossing State Street and heading south toward Jiffy Lube when she was hit by Bazan's eastbound vehicle. Witnesses said the car continued east on State Street.

Bazan turned himself in and was taken to Tippecanoe County Jail after being arrested on suspicion of failing to stop after an accident resulting in injury. He was later released on a $5,000 surety bond.

The Lafayette School Corp. board of trustees will hold three separate open forums to gather input from patrons as part of the selection process for the district's next superintendent.

A forum will be held for members of the public on Tuesday, a forum for teachers on July 18 and a forum for administrators on July 20. Each forum will be held at 7 p.m. in the board room of the Hiatt Administration Center at 2300 Cason St. in Lafayette.

Members of the public are invited to attend and provide input to board members on the characteristics desirable of the superintendent who will replace current superintendent Ed Eiler.
